Meet Walter Bailey

Walter Bailey Jr.
Walter Bailey Jr. has served the local legal community and Shelby County since 1965. Walter was involved in several important cases related to civil rights, including the case that desegregated Shelby County public schools. He was also present on the legal defense team of Martin Luther King Jr. during the sanitation workers' strike in Memphis in 1968. In 1985, he served as lead counsel on the favorably decided Supreme Court case, Tennessee vs. Garner.
Walter has served as chairman of the advisory board to the Tennessee Supreme Court on criminal procedure. He is licensed to practice in all Tennessee courts, including the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee and the U.S. Supreme Court.
